A new calf has been spotted in the Southern resident Orcas in the L pod. They are not sure who the mother is, but this Orca has been labelled L 130.

Even one new calf is a cause for celebration. The Southern resident Orcas and endangered. There are only 75 left in three different pods.
This is the second calf spotted this year, the first one being labelled L 129. The labelling may be precise, but it is a little clinical.
Good news, the law now requires boats to stay away by 1000 meters. Previously they could go as close as 400 meters.
