The Monarch Butterflies are having a good year

People are reporting more Monarch Butterflies in Manitoba this year. It has been a hot , wet summer and the prairie flowers are flourishing.
There is still a very limited amount of natural prairie habitat, but the situation is improving.

Replanting the native, flowering plants is the key. If we provide what the butterflies need, they will come and they will multiply.
It  may take years to restore the habitat and years for the butterfly numbers to improve, but it is happening.

It is wonderful to see that conservation efforts are having an effect. Our beautiful butterflies are coming back from the edge of extinction.
We still have to keep working and planting milkweed and other native plants. It is just nice to have good news for a change.
