Oldest animal at Chicago zoo gets a birthday party
#1
The  oldest resident of the Brookfield Zoo in Chicago is 56 years old. Adelaide is an Echidna. She was given a special cake of puree chicken and meal worms.
She has lived well beyond her normal lifespan and doesn't look like she is slowing down any time soon.

The cake is beautiful, but I wouldn't want to try it. Adelaide sure enjoyed it though.
Interesting fact, Adelaide is one of the two species of mammals that lay eggs.
She must be getting everything she needs in a comfortable environment for her to have lived so long.
I have seen an Echidna and they are so cute and so funny.
Happy Birthday Adelaide!

That's right, they are called ant eaters. With her pointy face, Adelaide would have no trouble eating ants.
It would be fun to see one in the wild. Most of us have to settle for seeing them in zoos. I know Toronto has at least one.
Fifty six is a good age. She certainly doesn't look that old.
