How the Toronto Zoo looks after the animals in the freezing weather
#1
Right now Toronto is in a cold spell. The wind chill is brutal. If you don't know what wind chill is, you are very lucky.

The zoo works to keep the animals comfortable all year round. The cold climate animals are loving this weather. Some animals grow long shaggy coats, so this is no problem. They do look cute though.
The tropical animals have heated pavilions. They are like giant greenhouses and many animals live in them all  year round. The reptiles have enclosures within the pavilions that allow for even more temperature control.

The animals diet is adjusted to give them more winter suitable foods.
Many of the animals were born here so they do alright.

It is cold, but I am going to the zoo in the morning. I can keep warm in the pavilions. I can't grow a heavy coat, but I can put one on.
Winter diet? Think higher fat and higher calories. I have switched already.
It will be fun. The animals from colder climates will be feeling good in this cold.
The tropical animals somehow know it is cold outside and they will really appreciate their heated pavilions.
I think we are all winter adapted here.
