It is raining Iguanas in Florida
#1
The weather has turned cold in Florida. Iguanas are an invasive species and the cold stuns them and they fall out of trees.
People find them lying on the ground all over. People are being asked to gather up the cold stunned iguanas and take them to drop off points where they will be disposed of. More bluntly, they will be killed.

Cold stunned Iguanas is a yearly event in Florida. They really don't belong there. Gathering them up is not a bad idea. They do need to get the numbers under control.
It is just sad that they will be killed. Iguanas did not ask to be taken to Florida. Some were released by accident during serious storms. Some would have been released pets. Either way they didn't ask to be where they are now.  Humans made the mistake of releasing Iguanas. All they are doing now is trying to survive.
They are destructive and harmful to the local habitat, but they didn't ask to be there. We humans make the mistake and the animal always pays for it with their lives.
Surely they could create a sanctuary for Iguanas. Some of them were only babies. Maybe they could be adopted and cared for. Why is our only solution to our mistakes a cull of some kind. It is heartbreaking to see so many beautiful lizards killed because we let them get loose where they do not belong.
