Dogs Day Out
#1
Austin Pets Alive has a new program to help dogs get a break from living in a shelter. They call it Dogs Day Out. A couple of days a week you can sign a dog out in the morning.  You can take the dog home or for a long walk or whatever you want to do. You bring the dog back around 5-6pm.
It lets someone enjoy a dog for a day and it lets a dog enjoy a day.

This is a very clever idea. There are people who are not able to keep a dog who would enjoy this program. They get to enjoy a day with a dog. Students who can't take on a dog while still in school might enjoy having fun with a dog. Seniors who are not able to care for a dog could still have  a fun day with a dog.
People working odd shift work might not be home regularly enough to actually have a dog. They might still want a day with a dog when they can.
If this idea works out, maybe other shelters could try it. I am sure the dogs are glad to get out for a day.
