It is that time of year. The Jeffersons salamanders come out of the winter resting places in the woods and cross the road to the ponds where they breed.
To help them survive, the road they have to cross is closed to traffic. The road could reopen in early April. This annual road closure has been happening since 2012.
The community is supportive of this closure and wants the Jeffies to be protected.

This is beautiful. People are consciously making a decision to help a species survive.
This year even more roads will be closed to help the little salamanders survive.

I wish we did a lot more things like this. So many species would benefit from little assists like this.
