Dog stolen on the subway found tied to a park bench

Bishop the pit bull was stolen on the New York subway. Two people walking their dog came across Bishop. They waited for his owner to return. When that didn't happen, they used social media to reunite him with his people. It took 36 hours, but Bishop is happily home with his people.

It is terrible that the dog was stolen. Good for social media that it helped him get home.
I just wonder why someone stole the dog and then abandoned him.
