Why do we get so excited about Groundhog Day? 
It is the middle of winter and any excuse to celebrate will do.
Also, it is the middle of winter. February 2 is the halfway point of winter
and every day from now on is closer to Spring and more of winter is behind us.

This is the Groundhog that I will be watching.

Bad news, the weather is cold and clear and Willie is sure to see his shadow.

It will still officially be Spring in 6 weeks and the days are getting longer.
One way or the other, Spring will arrive.

Where has this past year gone. At least in the movie, every day was groundhog day. 
We just seem to get to groundhog day faster every year, even though it has been a whole year.

The good news is that our groundhog thinks it will be an early spring. 
That hope will get me through the next snow storm.

The western Canada Groundhogs never get to predict early spring.
The east coast groundhog had to cancel his appearance because of bad weather.
I'll take my chances with Wiarton Willie. He usually promises early spring, he doesn't always deliver, but he promises.

I need to dress warm in the morning. The temperature is dropping again.
