133,000 sq km of ocean off of western Canada now designated as a marine sanctuary
#1
A large area of deep waters off of British Colombia has been set aside as a protected area.
It is an ecologically unique area about 150 km west of Vancouver Island. The area contains under water mountains and thermal vents.
There are a lot of rare species living in the area.

We are finally recognizing the importance of our ocean habitats and acting to protect them.
This is the largest marine  area that we have protected.  Hopefully it will lead to more areas being protected.
