Niagara SPCA receives 76 cats in 4 days
#1
The Niagara SPCA and Humane Society received 76 cats in 4 days. Ten kittens were found inside a box. Someone was evicted and turned in 9 cats.
Pregnant cats and nursing cats with litters were turned in. Then 14 female cats in a dog crate were found inside a park.
This is kitten season so the shelter expected to take in cats and kittens, but this is beyond anything they anticipated. Local pet stores and veterinarians have stepped up and are helping in any way they can. The shelter is also putting out a general plea for help from the public to cover the costs of helping these cats.

No shelter expects to have so many cats arrive at once. The problem was out there just waiting to happen. People let their cats have kittens, then they couldn't care for them. Much of this would not have happened if the cats had been spayed. I know it can be expensive, but many of the shelters have spay/neuter clinics.
They will spay or neuter your cat at a much lower cost. It will be cheaper in the end than trying to care for litters of kittens. I just hope they don't find any  more boxes of kittens. If people do need to surrender them, at least don't leave them in the park.
