India's stray dogs safe for now
#1
The Indian Government decided that all stray dogs in Delhi should be removed from the streets and confined.
There are an estimated one million stray dogs in Delhi and it is unlikely it could have been done humanely.
The public was very much against the move.
The government listened and has agreed to the more humane Trap Neuter Release approach.

Trap Neuter Release is a more humane approach. It is also more effective. It has been used successfully on feral cat colonies in many places.
The results are not sudden, but they are lasting. Groups of stray animals  decrease in numbers when there are no more births. It is like a natural decline.
It may take a lot to deal with the numbers of stray dogs in Delhi, but at least it is humane and it is possible.
Local communities are committed to looking after the dogs where they are. Now they just need to neuter and vaccinate. It could work.
