Amazon Pink River Dolphins contaminated with Mercury
#1
The Pink River Dolphins are in danger of going extinct. They are being studied closely and they have been found to have high levels of Mercury contamination.
Illegal gold mining on the Amazon River is contaminating it with Mercury. The fish are heavily contaminated with Mercury. The Dolphins who eat the fish are now contaminated with mercury. Humans who eat the fish are also contaminated with Mercury.
Above a certain level Mercury does serious damage to the body. It effects the central nervous system and in high doses is fatal.

The pink dolphins are struggling enough to survive without the complication of Mercury poisoning.
The river needs to be cleaned up. For the sake of the humans who live along the river, it needs to be cleaned up.
Mercury in the food chain from the contaminated river, can spread and do damage wherever it ends up.

Saving the dolphins means shutting down illegal gold mining. It is the only way to clean up the environment.
