Kansas Zoo fights back against AI videos of animals
#1
The Kansas Zoo is fighting back against AI videos of animals. They are right. This is a problem.
People learn a lot of misinformation from these videos. They watch them instead of actually seeing the animals.
This has potential to change our conservation efforts and our whole interactions with animals.

People are always sending me "amazing" animal videos. They are fake. I got sent a video of someone out walking their pet Komodo Dragon.
It was so fake. It looked like Dino the dinosaur from the Flintstones. To someone who has no experience with animals, this seems real. Now they not only don't know about Komodo Dragons, they know a lot of misinformation. That is worse than not knowing about something and it could be harmful.
If you think an animal is friendly and it is not, you could endanger yourself and others. You could endanger the animal.

We need  to look at videos and ask ourselves if they are real. Use the internet to look up the actual animal and compare it to the video. Only look at videos from trusted sites, like zoos and wildlife centers. Ask yourself, how would a random person get a video of a person walking a Komodo Dragon?
