Necker Island was uninhabited and didn't even have a fresh water source when it was purchased in 1978.
There was only a but of scrub vegetation. This was not a restoration because there never was anything there.
Gradually the island was turned into a conservation area with vegetation and animals brought in. In particular there are species that ar struggling with habitate loss in their own area. This island has given some species a chance to survive and maintain their numbers.
