I was just about to write, "This could only happen in America..." - but this happened in the UK! What a rip-off, for two minutes of work and no treatment! Vets' fees should be subject to some sort of appeal/arbitration in the case of excessive fees like these.

This time the vet was way out of line. I can understand that they have to charge a service fee, but not that much. A really nice vet would have said how sorry he was for their loss and charged them nothing.
Is there no way to regulate vets fees? Can they really charge anything they want?

Very heartless, I think.
This is sad for the people especially at a time like that. You would think that vet could have shown a little mercy and not just gone by the rule book in that circumstance.
Vets here have an out-of-hours fee, which used to be £100 or £95 or something discounting any other work or treatment. That fee operated during any out of hours service including weekends. Anyone working at a practice would have to charge that fee if that was the policy there.
Once Misty had a funny turn and I rushed her to the vet on a Saturday. Well that cost £100 even before the vet looked at her or checked her over.
As soon as she got there she perked up. It ended with the vet giving her a dog biscuit which she ate happily.
I sad to her (and to the vet!) "That is the most expensive dog biscuit I have ever bought you Misty. Eat it a bit more slowly!"

It still makes me angry to think about it. The vet had two prices. If you wanted to hold and comfort your pet she charged much more.
I have always held my pets as they die. I have even done it for other people's pets. To take the cat away to die with strangers is cruel. I will never recommend that vet. In fact I tell people not to go to her. So her money grabbing ways will not profit her. I am sure I am not the only person to be unhappy about it.
They charge way to much to euthanize an animal. Some people would have no choice , but to let the animal suffer and die in its own time. They have lost sight of why they became vets. When did the dream of helping animals turn into a dream of making lots of money.
