Feb 2 is Groundhog Day. One Saturday morning local groundhogs will come out of their dens and if they see their shadows there will be six more weeks of winter. If they don't see their shadows we will have an early spring. For those of us who live in a frozen world even a weather predicting rodent makes winter seem shorter.

Wiarton Willie is my closest groundhog and I trust him to tell me if spring is coming.
A little point of fact: Feb 2 is the half way point of winter. We have lived through 6 weeks and there are 6 more weeks until spring, the vernal equinox happens.
After 6 weeks of winter, if a furry rodent says early spring I am quite happy to hope for the best. It does help me to get through the next six weeks. Six more weeks, I can do it. It is only six more weeks.
