Dolphins have increasingly been developing Ulcerative Dermatitis. It is a serious problem. It took time to find the cause, exposure to fresh water. The fresh water happens in the coastal waters after big hurricanes like Katrina. They flood the coastal waters with fresh water and decrease its salinity. It takes months for conditions to return to normal. During that time dolphins living in the coastal waters are exposed to decreased salinity. That is enough to trigger the ulcerative dermatitis.
Big hurricanes and other extreme weather events are being brought on by the effects of climate change. As climate change intensifies we can expect more problems with coastal waters and therefore more dolphin casualties.

Everywhere we look we see the negative effects of climate change. This is just one more in a long list. It is tragic because dolphins are in no way responsible for what is happening, they are just the victims of it.
What will it take for us to take climate change seriously and do something about it.
