Off leash dog parks are not as safe for small dogs

One dog owner learned the hard way that an off leash dog park might not be safe for a small dog. She turned her dog loose to run around and the little dog joined the other dogs. The owner heard a cry and saw a husky dog holding her dog in its jaws. Sadly Poppy didn't survive.

Poppy was really more the size of a toy that a bigger dog would play with. Having her run around with bigger dogs was probably too dangerous. The fact that she was killed by a bigger dog makes that clear. Off leash dog parks are great. It really does give the dogs a chance to run around and have fun.
Maybe they need a special section fenced off for smaller dogs. One size does not fit all for most things in life. Why would it work for a dog park.

I hope something is done before any more little dogs are hurt.
