A conservation success story.

Fifteen years ago, habitat loss put a species at risk. This species is essential to the health of the wetlands. It was important that they survive. 
Ten years ago Chester Zoo was involved in a captive breeding project and was able to release many young to the wild. They have thrived and this year they counted 10,000 breeding females. Because of this giant Ren Raft Spiders  are thriving again.

Spiders are very important to healthy ecosystems. They play a key roll.
It is fun when they release cute fluffy animals, but sometimes it is more important to save a spider species that is an essential part of an ecosystem.
