Japan hand rears nearly extinct Herons to save the species

The White Bellied Heron is critically endangered. Their numbers in the wild are low. 
The White Bellied Heron Conservation Center is working directly to save the species.
They have managed to hatch and rear chicks in captivity.
The plan is to establish a captive population that can be released.

They have a plan and it looks like they can do it. It will take years, but the Herons can be saved.
We just have to look at the Whooping Cranes and California Condors to know that these ideas work.
Yes there were problems learning how to successfully raise chicks, but now they have had success, things can move forward.
I hope in years to come we hear news of chicks hatching and birds being restored to the wild.
There is much to hope for.
