Polar bears vs Churchill's trash
#1
There has long been a problem with polar bears and garbage in Churchill, Manitoba. Loss of natural food sources has left the bears hungry.
Then the garbage storge facility in Churchill burned down in 2024. The garbage is being stored in the open, protected by an electric fence.
The bears gather and when the power went out the bears feasted on the garbage. The bears now spend their time searching for garbage they can eat.
This puts them close to humans, which is a very dangerous situation.

Something was supposed to be done about safe garbage storage. Nothing has been done.
Churchill needs a solution that is good for the humans and good for the bears.
It needs a solution now.

I agree it is undignified and insulting that our beautiful polar bears are fighting over our trash.
We should have had a better garbage solution years ago.
The idea of composting organic waste is a good one. Maybe Churchill could use the compost in green houses and help solve the problem of fresh vegetables.

We also need to work on climate change and global warming so the bears are not so hungry that they need our garbage.
Whatever gets done, it needs to be done soon. There are going to be a lot of hungry bears this summer and they need our help.
