8 Crested Ibises released in Japan
#1
The Crested Ibis disappeared from Japan decades ago. Hunting and habitat loss were the main causes.
China donated a pair of Ibises to Japan in 1999. A captive breeding program has increased their numbers. The Sado Conservation Center was able to release
10 birds in 2009. They now number 500. The release of 8 birds was on the Noto region. There are 10 more birds waiting to be released.

This is wonderful conservation news. Birds that have been gone for decades are now returning to their natural habitat. Their natural habitat is now getting back the birds it lost.
Every action like this  has a tremendous positive effect. Returning species do more for their home that we anticipate. Restoring species tends to stabilize the ecology of an area.  Some time in the future I hope to be posting about the birds increase in numbers and the positive effects they have had on the region.
