A rescue group is trying to free two Chimpanzees from a lab at Stony Brook University. A judge issued a writ of habeas corpus for the two chimps, but later amended it. However the case is not going to disappear.
We are starting to see that certain animals have intelligence and therefore deserve some kind of legal protection and status under the law. It is not clear what that status will be, but they will gain legal protection.
