Unless you are only gone over night, you really need a pet sitter. Zooey knows I am coming over when they go away so she is quite relaxed. We both have out routines and we are used to each other. They have gone for as long as a month and Zooey has been fine. I do spend more time there if they are gone that long. They pay me enough to help me feed my own animals.  If they are gone in the summer I also water the garden.
I have other neighbours with cats that I have looked after and of course the bunny boards with me a few times a year.

Zooey and I are good friends.
