Good news for Blanding's Turtles

Blanding's turtles are native to Ontario. They used to be numerous in the Rouge River valley. There has been considerable effort made to save the species in the area. For the last three years eggs have been hatched, turtles raised and then released.

This year 36 baby turtles were released!

This is a real success story. The Rouge River is now a protected urban park and there are real efforts being made to protect the species that inhabit the park. Releasing that many turtles ensures that the numbers will increase and stabilize.  It is nice to hear good news for a change.
