Honey thieves kill thousands of bees

The news just came out, honey thieves broke into some hives at Toronto's Fort York apiary. They took some honey and left the bees exposed to the cold. Thousands have died.

Good thing the bee keepers check so often. They save some hives and a lot of bees.
But thousands are still dead.

This article has a lot of good information. It seems that last year city council voted to designate Toronto as a Bee City.
We do at lot for bees here, wild and "domestic". There are many, many gardens private and public planted with bees in mind.

The public response to the theft and in particular the death of the bees has been very strong. If the honey thieves are not very careful someone will turn them in. In other words, you better be able to prove where your honey came from. Mine all comes from very special hives all around Toronto.  If a neighbour has a sudden unexplained honey supply you might want to keep an eye on them. If they killed bees once they might be willing to do it again.

Sadly all these great wild honeys are available. You can just buy them and then no bees are hurt in the process.
