As they are bred specifically for slaughter, it would be hard to get the law changed on grounds of "endangered species". But hopefully, on grounds of animal cruelty?

Even if they are bred for slaughter, I think lions are still a protected species. Trade in animal parts should be illegal. Allowing trade in some animal parts just encourages trade in rhino horns and elephant tusks. 
I wish we could shut down the market that buys the parts. That is going to be harder.

They might make animal cruelty charges stick. I doubt the conditions for the lions are all that good. Since this is part of the raising of lions for canned hunting it is a bigger problem that needs to be fought.

I had no idea the "lion" industry was so extensive. I just can't fathom an industry developed around breeding animals so hunters can fool themselves into thinking they have really hunted a lion. I can't understand why someone would want to kill a lion in the first place. Hunting for food might be a necessity, but hunting for a trophy is just weird. What does that say about some people that they would want a trophy of any kill. Instead of spending all that money and time why don't they volunteer at a food bank or animal shelter and do something meaningful with their time.
