It is World Turtle Day, a day set aside to recognize turtles and tortoises and raise awareness about them.
This day was sponsored by the American Tortoise Rescue a group that has worked tirelessly to help turtles and tortoises.
The founders Susan Tellem and Marshall Thompson have helped thousands of animals.
They have been sponsoring World Turtle Day for the last 17 years.

Turtles have existed in some form for about 300 million years.
Right now they are facing extinction because of human activity resulting in climate change and habitat loss. We need to be aware of their plight and do everything possible to keep our turtle and tortoise friends alive. This is a good day to reflect on what we can do to help and then we should do it.
