There is a battle on now in Canada to ban the sale of glue traps. Obviously animals cannot speak for themselves in this issue. It is animal rights activists who are presenting the case against glue traps. The issue right now is whether they have a right to speak for the animals. This is an important issue that goes beyond just banning glue traps. It will effect many other cases in the future.

Considering how brutal glue traps are, it will be a good thing if they are banned. Being allowed to speak on behalf of animals will help this case. It will also open up possibilities for many other future cases involving animal welfare.
It would set a legal precedent that will effect other cases and rulings. Whatever the outcome is, this is still a significant case. Even if they lose, but were allowed to speak, it is still a victory.
