Chinese city of Shenzhen banning dog and cat meat

The city of Shenzhen is in the process of banning the consumption of dog and cat meat. Restaurants would be fined if they serve dog and cat meat. Shenzhen is in the province of Guangdong which neighbours on Guangxi, the province  of Yulin, home of the Dog Meat Festival.

Shenzhen is not the largest consumer of dog and cat meat, but it is still a significant city.  It can be hoped that it will influence the neighbouring areas. If the ban actually passes it would set a precedent. It would be moving people away from dog and cat meat consumption. It is a small start, but it would be a real start.
