That is it exactly. 
This is not going to go well for us. A cull of the apex predator is going to destabilize the ecosystem. It will make things much worse. 
We seem to be good at making things much worse. This isn't going to be good for the animals involved and somehow I don't think it will be good for us either.
When we mess up with nature, it can hit back. Most of the world is caught up in a pandemic because we messed up with nature. We better start learning soon.
