Months ago devastating floods damaged southern Alberta and closed the Calgary Zoo.
Who can forget stories of brave zoo staff swimming through buildings trying to protect their animals. Who can forget the images of the Hippopotamuses who got loose in the building and could easily have gotten loose into the river.
The animal loses were few, but the damage was great.
The zoo had a major clean-up job and only partly opened in July.

Finally after much hard work the zoo is fully back in business.

I worked at Calgary Zoo one summer when I was in University and it will always be a special place. I am so happy to hear that they rebuilt.
I am sure they will find ways to protect themselves against future floods. This was an unexpected and unprecedented flood. No one could have seen it coming.
