Senior dog finally returned to his family

Ringo, a twelve year old mixed breed dog,  slipped out and ended up in the custody of Vaughn Animal Services. According to his microchip Ringo could be part Pitbull. Pitbulls are banned in Ontario. Work is being done to remove this law, but it is still in effect. According to the law, Ringo would either be euthanized or rehomed outside of the province. Ringo is a twelve year old family pet who has never been in any trouble with Animal Services. He is a gentle family pet.

Petitions were started by Reform Advocates for Animal Welfare and there was a lot of publicity about  Ringo's situation.
Animal Services returned the dog after 5 days.

It is a happy thing that Ringo was returned, but there are other possible part  Pitbull dogs being held. Likely in Ringo's case it was the publicity that helped.
Publicity is a powerful  tool when it comes to animal advocacy.

Groups like this are necessary and they make a difference.  With work they will get the Pitbull ban over turned.
The ban did not help prevent  incidents with aggressive dogs. The problem was not the dogs, it was the owners.
Sadly many Pitbulls died or were taken from their families.
It is just fortunate for one old dog like Ringo, there was a happy ending.
