Of Popes and Pets

The current pope may have a problem with pets, but not so his predecessors. It seems many popes not only had no problem with others having pets, they had pets of their own. Pope Benedict XVI, the current pope emeritus, has a number of pet cats.

Pope Francis rather stands out as the odd one who doesn't like pets. 
Also he has basically said that previous popes had diminished humanity since they had pets instead of children.
He could use a pet in his life. It might make him a little more human and a little more humane.
