Virginia Wildlife Killing Contest

Virginia holds a number of wildlife killing contests each year. They offer prizes to people for the animals they have killed.  
Even though many states have banned such contests, they are alive and well in Virginia. Sadly many animals are not.
This year saw an increase in attendance.  Humane Society US has reported on the events. They say they are organized by churches, fairgrounds, fire departments and sporting goods stores.  Participants drove trucks full of dead animals to be weighed and measured. There are many prizes for different categories. There is even a prize for killing the most animals.

These contests exist to kill for entertainment. The animals will be dumped afterwards. There is no pretense of harvesting to meet our needs. There is no pretense of killing animals as a cull. It is just killing for the sake of killing and getting prizes for doing it.
This is disgusting, outrageous and a total violation of what it means to be a decent human being. 
We make so much progress towards being better as a species and then something like this sets us back by centuries to a more primitive, brutal time. 
When it comes to human behavior, I do not want to hear about the good old days.
