Harpooned whales can take 2 hours to die

The Icelandic Food and Veterinary Authority have been studying  Icelandic whale hunting. In particular the actual deaths of the whales were studied. Many  whales had to be harpooned more than once and some took up to two hours to die. Whales are sentient beings and they are being killed cruelly and slowly. The conclusion is that a humane death is not possible under these circumstances.
The chair of the Icelandic Nature Conservation Association is calling for an end to whaling. It is inhumane, it is no benefit to the country economically and it undermines Iceland's image as a pro-conservation country.

This has been a long time coming, but better late than never. We have known for a long time that whaling is cruel. 
Now that Iceland has admitted it, we shall see if they stop it.
