It looks like you are right about killing contests being a North American thing.
Canada has them, but not as many as the USA because we have a much smaller population
Any bans in Canada will have to come on the provincial level. So far I don't think any have been banned.
The USA is similar in that their bans will have to come at the state level.
Some states have already banned killing contests. I think it will take a long time for the country to be free of killing contests.
Some states will not give up contests until they have to.
They are going to have to change how people think about animals, especially predators like wolves and coyotes.
