Millions of chickens sold in UK stores have burns from excrement
#1
When chickens are raised in crowded settings on dirty bedding, they develop burns from excrement. So, when a chicken sold in a grocery store has signs of burns, you know how it was raised. Animal welfare campaigners surveyed stores and found some had as high as 74% of chickens with what they call hock burns. Even good stores had over 30%. The target goal for Red Tractor was  15%.

Animals that suffered burns before slaughter clearly suffered. Living in conditions so bad that chickens are injured by them should be unacceptable.
It is amazing that this is tolerated. The best goal was no more than 15% showing signs of suffering.
The goal should be no animals injured by poor living conditions. There shouldn't be poor living conditions in the first place.
As long as the public is willing to tolerate this, the abuse will go on.
