On Thursday 4 pods oof Pilot Whales were stranded in a remote estuary about 150 miles south of Perth. Wildlife teams and volunteers rushed to the rescue.
At least 26 died, but many were saved. It was possible to direct them back out to sea safely.

It is sad that so many whales died, but it could have been worse. Most of the whales did survive. They were able to get them to safer waters.
It is still not clear why whale strandings happen. All we can do right now is be prepared to help when it happens.
