Fire fighters were called in to rescue a baby raccoon. It was stuck in a pool drainpipe. It took a lot of work, but they were able to pull him out safely. Sadly another baby raccoon was stuck in the pipe with him, but that baby had already died. They were likely lost from their mother and the pipe seemed like a good place to take shelter.

This had a happy and sad ending. One raccoon was rescued, but the other was dead. The real issue is the open pipe the raccoons crawled into. If that pipe had been covered, the raccoons couldn't have crawled inside. We need to look around our properties and make sure there are no places where little animals could get trapped. It is up to us to protect them. They are just babies.
