Anthony Waddle loved frogs as a child. He still loves them, but now he can help them.
Frogs globally are in trouble. In particular whole populations of frogs are being wiped out by the chytrid fungus.
He created frog saunas to raise their temperatures in winter and keep them safe from the fungus. The frog saunas were made from bricks and they worked.
Now he is doing more to help frogs survive.

His research is complex and he is still trying new ideas. Raising frogs, vaccinating them against the chytrid fungus and releasing them, is giving frogs a chance to survive. He is working with gene replacement and transgenetic frogs that would be able to resist fungal infection. The goal is conservation and species survival.
He is working in Australia right now, but the goal is to help frogs globally.
He is using synthetic biology and it has its risks, but the situation of frogs globally is critical, and this could mean the difference between frog survival and frog extinction.
