Some of them are works of art. There is certainly a lot of creativity in some of the posters.

I think humor works because we look at it and remember it.
Years ago a neighbour put up a poster about "Poor Richard's Cat is missing".
By morning he had three cats returned to him, none of them his. Poor Richard's cat had climbed inside a live trap set out with sardines to attract racoons so thy could be moved. Of course he couldn't get out so he snacked on the sardines until someone found him in the morning.
