The Boss, the first bear to wake up in Banff
#1
It is Spring although you wouldn't know it from the weather where I am. The bears are waking up and the Grizzly Bears in the Rocky Mountains are no exception. These bears are well known and they even know the first bear by name. He is called The Boss.

When you look at his picture you can see he is impressive.
They keep track of the Grizzly population and he is known to have five cubs, three with one female and two with another.
I would love to see him in person, but not up close, how about from a nice safe observation post.Smiley4

The Boss is quite spectacular! It would be very interesting to see the bears -but yes, from a nice safe observation post! They are far more dangerous and unpredictable than wolves. They will all be very hungry right now too, and will hopefully get enough to eat without having to come down into towns to raid bins....(?)
Hikers had better be on guard.

This is the time when bears are hungry. Food is still a little scarce. I think Boss must know where the good food is because he has done very well and has grown to be a big bear.

They do love the food bins however. We throw out such tasty garbage.
