Nine Marmots born at the Toronto Zoo!!!! That is a population explosion for a species that is perilously close to extinction. Clear cut logging and other human activities have almost wiped  them out.

The zoo has taken on conservation efforts and have been breeding the marmots in the safety of captivity so they can be released to the wild.

This is incredibly good news. Every birth gives the whole species a chance at survival.  Nine new marmots gives them a good chance at survival.
