Zoo animals in a war zone

Sadly the Mumtaz al-Nour Zoo in Mosul was caught in the conflict with Isis. Most of the animals were killed by the fighting. Some starved to death because there was no one left to care for them   One bear and one lion have survived.  They are being helped now.

It doesn't look like it was the best zoo in the world, but I am sure they tried to care for the animals. Sadly when there are conflicts and open war the animals don't stand a chance.

We need to find a way to evacuate zoo animals during conflicts. There are aid organizations willing to help, but they can have problems getting access to the animals. Better yet we need to stop fighting. No one ever wins and so much is destroyed.
