There is something very wrong with the Iditarod Race.
The Iditarod is held every year; a sled dog race from Anchorage to Nome, Alaska.
It has been held every year to commemorate the heroic dog-team relay which brought vaccine to help the people of Nome during a diptheria epidemic in 1925.
I used to think it was the "King of Races". .
Now I know differently I realise there is a huge dark side to this event. 2 year old "Smoke" is the 148th sled dog to die in this race.
Those dogs are tough! They are conditioned to the cold and love to run. But they are being pushed WAY beyond their limits.
Behind the scenes even worse is happening to these dogs:

Something is very wrong. It is a brutal event, more for the humans' egos than the dogs.
As usual, financial interests of humans dominate this event. And I am surprised (yet maybe not??) to learn that there is a 'gag' order in the official race rules which forbid mushers from saying anything negative about the race during the run, and for 45 days afterwards.
