When the gorilla in the (operating) room is real
#1
Vip the 38 year old gorilla male at Seatle's Woodland Zoo showed signs that he wasn't well. Human doctors were called in and it turned out he needed surgery for a hernia. Things were set up for the surgeon, the vet and the gorilla and the job was done.

It is quite a story. Not many doctors can say they did surgery on a gorilla.
This is not the first time medical staff have come to the aid of a zoo. Gorillas are so very like us that they are able to help. They are also much stronger so some things had to be done differently.

With any luck Vip will go on to live a full life and who knows he might have more daughters.
