Ritual Slaughter vs. Animal Rights
#1
This is a touchy issue. Increasingly animal rights activists are pushing for changes in slaughter methods. Religions that require special slaughter methods are now at odds with modern ideas about animals. Animals feel fear and pain.
Should any religion promote and adhere to that.
The article I found does take a good look at the issue.

I keep hoping we will wake up and see that the 21st century needs 21st century thinking. Many customs and traditions date back to different times. Without being prejudiced or discriminating  we should be able to move towards newer and better ways of doing things. We are intelligent and caring people. We must be able to do better. Or we should give up meat all together.

For the sake of compassion, it is time to put aside our own sensitivities about "prejudice" and "discrimination", and start to look at how we treat animals, whoever we are, and whatever creed or colour.

This new look at how we treat animals should be a global issue. Religion, culture and custom should not take precedence  over compassion towards animals. No religion should condone or promote cruelty. No custom should live on if it is inherently cruel in nature. A tradition that violates decency towards animals is not a tradition worth keeping.

We need to be mature and caring in the way we treat animals. Anything that doesn't measure up to that standard is questionable.
