Lab grown skin cells to replace animals testing
#1
They are having good success growing skin cells from human stem cells. The research still has a long was to go or rather it will potentially go a long way. What they have done is create human skin. This skin will be better than animal tests because it is human and will give human results. It will also be faster and probably cheaper. It is expensive to maintain large numbers of lab animals.

It would be nice to think we would give up animal testing for compassionate reasons. That is less likely to happen than us giving up animal testing because there is a better and cheaper method.

This research line has a lot of potential. Producing skin is important, but more important are the other types of tissue we could potentially create.  Could we grow actual replacement organs. Quite possibly.  This kind of work is moving us in a good direction, a more compassionate direction. We could actually test drugs on human tissue and know that they are safe. Animal testing has not served us well. There have been too many drugs that were okayed based on animal research only to be recalled when enough humans actually took the drug.  The future could be better for humans and animals and we could stop a great deal of animal cruelty.
